Trade Union (Facility Time Publication Requirements) Regulations 2017 - Central and Education (Maintained School) Functions

This is the information the council is required to publish under the Trade Union (Facility Time Publication Requirements) Regulations 2017 for its central and education (maintained schools) functions.

The Council recognises 10 trade unions with which we continue to work in partnership to deliver services and outcomes to support the community of Leicester.  These trade unions support a central workforce of 5895 employees and an education workforce of 6327 employees, acting as the collective voice of our individual employees to inform key decision making within the Council.

We continue to support the trade unions in having an active presence in the workplace through releasing representatives to undertake trade union duties and activities.  It is these representatives who make a real contribution, working alongside our managers to support employees to deliver valuable outcomes for the people of Leicester.

Recently, Leicester City Council has become the first local authority to formally pledge our support and commitment to the TUC Great Jobs Agenda.  As a Living Wage Foundation employer, our close partnership with the trade unions has helped the council to deliver the highest standards of employment where staff are paid fairly, are well trained and work in safe environments. Our joint initiative to reduce absence has seen absence rates cut by 14% in the last 12 months, from 4.86% of total hours worked to 4.18%, saving the Council £560,000 over the year.
